EDGEMONT -- Edgemont School has once again celebrated its annual tradition, MORP Week, bringing a twist to the conventional prom experience and strengthening the community spirit among students and staff. This year, the school witnessed the crowning of Freshmen MORP King Liam Yellow Horse and MORP Queen Tiana Sides in a festive celebration that turned the conventional prom tradition on its head.

Morp, which is “Prom” spelled backward, is an annual event eagerly anticipated each spring by the K-12 students and staff at Edgemont. Unlike traditional proms, where seniors vote for their king and queen, Morp involves the younger students in selecting freshmen as their royal figures, fostering inclusivity and participation across all grades.

The week-long event is designed as a spirit-building exercise with activities encouraging camaraderie and fun. This year, the school community engaged in a series of dress-up days, each with its own theme. The festivities kicked off with Pajama Day, followed by a day where everyone donned outfits in a single color. On Wednesday, students dressed for their favorite season.

The creativity continued as participants dressed up to represent their favorite season and holiday on Thursday. In a humorous twist, a group of middle school students chose to celebrate “Mr. Holliday” — dressing up as the beloved middle and high school teacher, much to his surprise and delight.

Morp Week also included a variety of “Minute to Win It” games that challenged both students and staff. These activities ranged from moving golf balls between buckets with hands covered by red solo cups to eating an Oreo placed on the forehead without using hands. The excitement culminated in a dodgeball tournament, fostering teamwork and friendly competition.

The highlight of the week was the crowning ceremony of the MORP King and Queen who were honored with a parade on scooters through the gymnasium. Furthermore, the Senior Class won the overall points for the week, making them the Morp Week Winners. The sophomore class hosted a movie and game night at the school to culminate the week’s festivities.
