Bison baseball team drops games to Platte, Chamberlain, Gregory

HOT SPRINGS – After a week of no games to finish off the month of April, the Hot Springs Bison baseball team played three varsity games and a JV game this past week, to start off the month of May.

On the road last Friday in Platte, the Bison 'Boys of Spring' lost both ends of a double-header, first by a score of 0-16 to host Platte/Geddes and then by a score of 1-11 to Chamberlain.

In the Platte/Geddes game, Steven Wingler, Austin McMillin, Garrett Heil, and Caleb Maciejewski each collected a hit for the Bison from the plate, and as a team, struck out three times but had numerous base running mistakes, according to Coach Mike Remington. In the field, he said the team committed a total of eight errors.

Versus Chamberlain, Wingler, Gavin and Garrett Heil, Maciejewski and Tyler Remington each collected hits, with Maciejewski collecting the lone run for the team. Garrett Heil had one RBI. As a team, the Bison struck out three times again.

This past Sunday at home, the Bison increased their run production slightly but still fell by a margin of 2-17 versus Gregory.

“We could not make the routine plays,” said Coach Remington. “We had five errors in the first inning alone that led to five runs. Base running mistakes again cost us chances to score, or at least get runners in scoring position.”

Garrett Heil had two hits, scored a run and had an RBI single in the fifth. Other players collecting hits were Tyler Remington, Sebastian Alvarez-Carrero and Gavin Heil.

“We’ve really cut down on our strike outs and we’re making better contact,” added Coach Remington. “We have to clean up the base running mistakes and that should enable us to put more runs on the scoreboard.”

Following the varsity game, the Bison also played an exhibition JV game, which ended in a narrow 2-3 loss.

Hot Springs' Zane Cope went 2-2 with a double and also scored a run. Jace Bilbrey pitched three innings and allowed only two runs. Tyler Remington pitched one inning and gave up one run. Austin McMillin, Alex Bilbruck and Tyler Remington also collected hits for the Bison.
