Stars, Stripes & Steps race winners announced

HOT SPRINGS – A total of 90 participants competed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, in the annual Challenge Dakota Stars, Stripes & Steps event, which featured three different races including a 2 mile, 5K and Half Marathon.
“The race has increasingly attracted family groups, with several toddlers and babies being carried by their parents,” said organizer Dusty Pence. “This year the Knee High Hilly Half Marathon started an hour earlier than the main event, so everyone had the fun of watching these intrepid runners finish their epic half-marathon, most in astonishingly good form.” Following are the winners:
2 MILE SOCK HOP (250 steps): 1st male, Peter Noteboom of Hot Springs, age 10, 19:41; 1st female, Colette Ambuul of Hot Springs, age 11, 32:12.
5K CRAZY CREW (655 steps): 1st male, Ryder Weiss, age 13, 34:11; 1st female Lori Dahly of Hot Springs, age 38, 36:21.
KNEE HIGH HILLY HALF MARATHON (742 steps): 1st male, Keaton Bissonnette of Hot Springs, age 19, 1:54.12; 1st female, Michaela Miner of Custer, age 28, 2:25.42.
Oldest Finishers: Carol Bird, Sheridan, Wyoming, age 78, 2M; Susan Wilson, Hot Springs, age 76, with her dog Ranger, 5K; Matt Gross, Rapid City, age 41, Half Marathon
Youngest Finishers: Jackson Pannill, Hot Springs, age 5, 2M; James-Rider Brinkerhoff, Fort Collins, Colorado, age 6, 5K; Keaton Bissonnette, Hot Springs, age 19, Half Marathon
