WeNot Me Hoop Shoot

By Susan Ostenson
A group of fifth and sixth grade girls’ ballers played in the “We Not Me Hoop Shoot” (basketball tournament) in Gordon, NE, February 26 and 27. The girls had a great time Saturday when they played two games and all got to participate in a knock-out shooting contest. Sammy Andrie and Kaitlin Gerard also shot in a 3-point contest.
In the first game of pool play the young girls took on a tough team from Bennett County and lost 11-28. Kaitlin Gerard and Morgan Peterson put up 2 points, Sierra Morse 3, and Peyton Ostenson 4.
The second game they played Saturday was against Hemingford; we lost 9-24 with Morgan scoring 1 point, Kaitlin and Peyton 2, and Kiersten Lynn 4.
On Sunday in tournament play, the girls got off to a slow start with a 6-11 half-time score. However, they came out with confidence, ready to go in the second half and made it a very close game! They ended up losing by a free throw, 26-27, to the girls from Gordon-Rushville. In this game Kiersten and Sammy Andrie each had 2 points, Sierra 4, Morgan 8, and Peyton 10.
The team had fun, all contributed, and gained valuable basketball experience in this non-school tournament. A big thank you to Stevens Automotive for sponsoring the team and to Michele Joint and Lane Ostenson for coaching!
