He was active in the Cheyenne River 4-H, a charter member of Riverside Grange #223, and a member of Riverside Volunteer Fire Department.

Philip graduated from South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD. He would attend two quarters, come home to help calve and farm then go back two quarters until he earned his degree in agriculture. While at school he was active in Hobo Day, Ag clubs and worked as a plumber.  A stroke caused him to quit farming, ranching and his great love of dancing. Philip took great pride in his Hereford cattle. He liked to go to bull sales and farm auctions.

Philip is survived by his sister, Jerry Lynn (Don) Fish; niece, Bunny (Roy) Boldon and their children, Zane; Breezy; Baxter; niece, Sunnie (Dustin) Reeves and their children, Rance; Dylan; nephew, Ty (Kelly) Fish and their children, Thor; Tylee; and Tryon.
