Rose Marie (Benson) Peters

 

November 12, 1935 - July 30, 2023

Rose Marie (Benson) Peters was born to Dallas Carl Benson and Eva Amanda (Ewing) Benson on November 12, 1935.  She joined two sisters, Betty Lou and Carol and gained two brothers, Leroy Dallas and Dick James to fill the house with love and laughter. Rose attended high school in Hot Springs. She helped her Dad on the ranch and enjoyed working outside her entire life.  She married Herbert Peters on March 15, 1959. She had four children, Joe Allen, Ernest Christopher, Twila May, and Franklin Edwin. They made their home on the land that Herb’s father homesteaded and ran cattle. They also ranched on some land that Rose was raised on. They raised their children on the ranch and many good memories were made. 

Rose also worked off the ranch at the Truck Stop at Maverick as a waitress. In her later years she cooked at the School in Hot Springs. She enjoyed being around the kids and loved that they called her Grandma. Rose enjoyed a good card game, she loved playing with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a large garden when the kids were home and canned the results of her hard work. 

Rose passed away July 30, 2023 at the age of 87. She is survived by her sister, Carol (Benson) Kryger, brother, Dick Benson; children, Joe (Cheryl) Peters, Ernie (Ruth) Peters, Twila Boykin, and Frank (Marla) Peters; grandchildren, Daubie Johnson, Bobbie Jo Peters, Kent (Kendra) Bettelyoun, Malinda(Nathan) Morgan, Rebecca (Ben) Venables, Cassie (Caleb) Stark, Katy (Ben) Ginter, Calie (Tucker) Derflinger, Derek Rohde, Karim (Michaella) Williams, Jessica Peters, Matt (Sidney) Peters, Courtney (Chase) Harmon; great grandchildren, Jacobie, Jaden, Mandi, Sierra, Ketch, Cyden, Kyler, Riley, Rowan, Reece, Renna, Daniella, Bailey, Luckas, Eva, Jane, Lora, Aryana, Triston, Jackson, Casey, Bentley, Jalin, Kailani, Domonic, Mia, Jasmine, and Brody. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Eva Benson; sister, Betty Watts, and brother, Leroy Benson. 

There will be a celebration of Rose’s life in Oelrichs, S.D. at the Community Center on August 19, 2023 at 5 p.m.  Please join us for food and fellowship.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley Funeral Home in Hot Springs, S.D.
