Verta Mary Krcil, 90, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away July 20, 2023, at Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs.
Verta was born July 11, 1933, in Pine Ridge, S.D. to Charles and Addie (Taggart) Elger. She lived in the Rushville, Neb. area until 1939 when the family moved to the Black Hills. She attended Page school in Argyle area before moving to Custer, graduating from high school in 1951.
Verta met her husband, Robert Krcil, while working as a nursing assistant at Custer Sanitarium. They married in August 1955 and made their home in Deadwood, S,D. They had three children, Cathy, Barbara and Robert J. Verta got a job as a nursing assistant at the VA Medical Center and the family moved to Hot Springs. She retired from the VA Medical Center with 25 years of service and remained in Hot Springs thereafter.
Verta was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She enjoyed card games (occasionally in casinos) arts, crafts and puzzle. She also loved spending time with her family and traveling to see them. She enjoyed the road trips and seeing new places.
Verta is survived by her daughters, Cathy Carter of Custer, and Barbara (Terrance) Murdoff of Topeka, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Amy Krcil of Hot Springs, as well as seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Verta was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R; son, Robert J; parents, brother, John and sister, Minnie.
Christian Funeral Vigil will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs.
Christian Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs. Christian Funeral Committal will follow at Pringle Cemetery in Pringle, S.D.
