January 3, 1943 - July 13, 2023

Jack Sands Proctor was born January 3, 1943 in Sheridan Wyoming to Albert Leon Proctor and Myrtle May (Graham) Proctor. 

Jack attended grade school in country schools on Inya Kara Creek. He went to high school in Hulett, and graduated his senior year at Moorcroft High School in May 1962. In December 1963 Jack married Irene Haber and to this union his oldest son, Bill Proctor was born in January 1965.

Jack was drafted into the army on December 7, 1964 and took his basic training in Huntsville, Alabama, then took missile training in Fort Bliss, Texas. He was then sent to Worms in Germany until his discharge on December 6, 1972.

Jack married Viola Marie Sipe on June 19, 1967. To this union his youngest son, Donald Lee Proctor was born in May 1968.

Out of high school Jack went to work on the IXL dude ranch in Dayton, Wyoming, where he broke horses and was a wrangler. He often told stories about this job and it was one of the favorite jobs he had.

Jack was always involved in rodeo. In 1962 he won the high school all-around cowboy, winning the bull riding and saddle bronc riding. He went on to announce high school rodeos and NRCA rodeos for years all over four states. He attended auctioneer school and started Wyoming Auction Sales Company where he conducted many auctions and calcuttas. He was a lineman, and later an electrician, for the Hot Springs Electric Assn. and later worked road construction, all the while ranching in the Inya Kara area.  He was a member of the NRCA and the Oldtimers Rodeo Assn. Jack was always very proud of that.  

In the fall of 1986, he and Vi moved to Edgemont, South Dakota, where they ranched for 18 years. That is where Proctor Sundays got started and still continue to this day. He loved the ranch and felt at home there. Jack started Proctor Trucking and had a very successful trucking company, acquiring lots of friends from all over that he cherished greatly. One of his greatest pleasures was working his team of horses. He loved teams and wagons. He and his boys broke a lot of horses and he loved to ride. Jack was on the Fall River Fair Board and was very instrumental in building a new arena and adding lots of new events to the fair and rodeo. He enjoyed entering the wild cow milking with his two sons. They were champions for several year. Jack also loved to watch his grandchildren rodeo and he always had a lot of pride in them.

In 2003 Jack developed a muscle disorder that eventually left him in a wheelchair and taking early retirement from trucking and ranching. In 2005 Jack and Vi moved to the Manville/Lusk, Wyoming community.

Jack passed away on July 13, 2023, peacefully at home in his sleep with his wife of 56 years by his side. Jack is survived by his wife, Vi; son, Bill (Geri) Proctor; son, Donny (Melissa) Proctor; brother, Frank (Marlys) Proctor; grandchildren, Morgan (Jeremy) Rossiter, Mckinna Proctor, Tucker Proctor, Hailey Proctor, Miles Proctor, and Meghen (Clayton) G’Schwind and three great grandchildren he loved so much. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Myrtle Proctor, and his sister, Billie Maxine Renner of Meeteetse, Wyo. 

Funeral services will be held at Moore Hill Cemetery in Wyoming, on July 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
