Michael Lee Hattervig

 

May 26, 1947 - June 20, 2023

Mike Hattervig, 76, of Hot Springs, S.D. passed away at the VA in Hot Springs on June 20, 2023. Mike was born in Yankton, S.D. on May 26, 1947 to Noble “Mike” Hattervig & Helen (Hattervig) Lokke.

Mike graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1965. Mike served as a Vietnam combat Veteran in the Army in 1968-1969. He later became inducted into the Hot Springs High School Hall of fame for football. Mike worked at the VA in Hot Springs for 34 years, retiring in 2002. Mike enjoyed socializing with family & friends, along with having a few adult beverages. He also enjoyed golfing at the Southern Hills Golf Course & following the NFL & PGA golf. Mike was an easy going, gentle soul & a man among men. He was loved for many things, especially his sense of humor & love of life.

Mike is survived by wife, Mary (Hamaker) Hattervig; sons, Coi (Kelly) Morehead, and Shane Schoenthal; grandchildren, Kain (Sophie) Morehead, and Kiana Morehead; brothers, Roger (Coralee) Hattervig, and Jack (Deb) Hattervig; sisters, Cindy Highsmith and Wendy (Dan) Heckman; sister in laws, Linda Olmstead, LuJean (Don) Haskvitz; brother in law, Gary Cummings and numerous nieces & nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Noble “Mike” Hattervig & Helen (Hattervig) Lokke; and nephews, Trampus Haskvitz & Chad Heckman.  

Committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at the American Legion in Hot Springs.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley Funeral Homes in Hot Springs, S.D.
