Neva (Shedden) Boekhout

On June 27, 2023, Neva (Shedden) Boekhout, 99, passed away at Pine Hills Retirement Center in Hot Springs, S.D.
Per Neva’s final wishes, a viewing will take place, Wednesday, July 5th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs and a committal service will take place Thursday, July 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
Neva was born January 24, 1924 in Edgemont, S.D. to Harry Shedden and Neva A.; Estes. She was the youngest of 5 children, all of whom have preceded her in death. Neva graduated from Edgemont High School and went to Nursing College at Creighton, Neb. Neva was a devout Christian and was a Registered Nurse for the South Dakota State Veterans Home and the Hot Springs VA.
Neva married Andrew Boekhout on July 11, 1950 and together they raised 5 children. Neva loved to read her Bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family and had a love for any type of card and board games. She was also a member of the Shakespeare Club and Red Hat Society, and many other philanthropic organizations as well as very active in the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Andy Boekhout in November of 2014; her son, James; her siblings, Marion Simms, Erma Chappell, Don Shedden and Tom Shedden and their spouses.
She is survived by her 4 children, Barb Ditmanson of Hot Springs, Leslie Valandra of Bridgewater; Marc Boekhout of Pine Haven, Wyo., and Amy (Bob) Crosby of Hot Springs; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, and many lifelong friends including her dear friend, Gladys Pullins.
Memorials may be given to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, stained glass window restoration.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley Funeral Homes in Custer, S.D.
