Arlene Hallsted

February 16, 1944  - May 26, 2023

Arlene Hallsted, 79, passed away peacefully in her home on May 26, 2023. She is reunited with her husband of 55 years, Bill Hallsted.

Starting their married life on a ranch, they transitioned through many careers before Bill entered the ministry. Arlene’s greatest joy was being a mother, and she dedicated all her time to it. When their third child began having seizures and requiring more care, she devoted herself to learning everything about his condition, often astounding the doctors at Mayo Clinic, who soon saw her as an equal. With her natural empathy and candid (often blunt) approach, she was a trusted advisor to many.

Arlene is survived by two sons, Don (Laurie) Hallsted of Ford Dodge, Iowa; Andrew Hallsted of Hot Springs; three daughters, Nancy (Jim) French of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Connie (Floyd) Gorsuch of Hot Springs; Bonnie (Bob) Wanzer of Hot Springs; four siblings, Evelyn (George) Wiley of Salida, Colo.; Eldon (Doris) Mills of Fort Worth, Texas; Kenneth (Becky) Mills of Las Animas, Colo.; Delmar (Sarah) Mills of La Junta, Colo.; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral home in Hot Springs, Pastor Dirk Jasperse officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, Neb.

Arrangements have been made in the care of Chamberlain McColley Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD. Written condolences can be made at www.chamberlainmccolleys.com.
