Alice lived with her cousin Viola and went to work at a rancher’s restaurant where she met her future husband, Clair Rahn. She met Clair in the twelfth grade and things became very steady. He came in and ate at the restaurant whenever Alice was working. Very soon, Alice and Clair got engaged on her birthday, August 5, 1950. They spoke with her parents, Henry and Alvina Reister, and decided on a wedding date, October 2, 1950. The meals were prepared and served by the church ladies and both sets of parents provided meats and vegetables, with pies for dessert. Gifts were opened; cake was served, decorated by the groom’s mother, Hazel Rahn. She greeted Alice with the cake saying, “Stay as sweet as this always”. The couple then moved to Valentine, Neb. and were blessed with four beautiful children, Donna Jean, Diane Kay, James Clair and Jerry Wayne. Clair passed away in 1977.
Alice was employed at Hot Springs High School in S.D., for eight years, then on to State Superintendent of Principal School Instructions in Pierre, S.D.
Alice moved to Arizona in 1972 and was employed by an eye surgeon. She later worked for Maricopa County Supervisors as a contract writer and proofreader, moving on to the safety department. In 1978 Alice then went to work for Holsom Bakery in the safety department until 1985. In 1985, she worked for Motorola as a Senior Safety Engineer until 1995. After leaving Motorola Alice went on to work for Martin Luther School and American Greetings.
