Sheldon Monroe Wade
Sheldon Monroe Wade passed away quietly in his sleep on August 13, 2014, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Alliance, Nebraska.
He was born June 14, 1927, to Clifford and Valeare (Dibble) Wade as the noon whistle blew in Edgemont, South Dakota.
Sheldon served, along with his father, in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On his return to the U.S., he married Ella Kaiser in August 1948 at Hot Springs, South Dakota. To this union three sons were born.
Though Sheldon took college classes at Chadron and Denver, he returned to what he knew best as a third-generation grocer. Always up to a challenge, he owned or managed stores in Edgemont, New Castle, Denver, Rapid City, Deadwood, Alliance and Chadron. He was known for maintaining a clean store with eye appeal.
On March 30, 1977, he married Lois Moore Hulshizer in El Paso, Texas. They lived in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he managed a Stuckey’s. They moved to Ritzville, Washington where he managed a golf clubhouse until Mount St. Helens eruption covered the course with a foot of ash. They moved back to the Nebraska panhandle then to Long Pine where he ran the Kid Wade Café. They returned to Hemingford for 15 years and in 2009, moved to Alliance.
Sheldon is survived by his wife, Lois, his sons Roger (Marla) of Hemingford, Clifford (Francine) of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; grandchildren Holly, Aaron (Cara), Kyle (Sarah), and Bayley Seaton-Wade as well as six great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his stepchildren Marilyn (Scott) Bolinger, Alliance; Yvonne (Steve) Ritchie, North Platte; and Steven (Cynthia) Hulshizer, Ft. Worth, Texas; 11 step-grandchildren, 19 great-step-grandchildren and 1 great-great step-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by parents, sister Iris White, infant son Ronald Dale, niece Laureen and step-son Dwayne Hulshizer.
Memorials may be sent to the Hemingford Community Credit Union, P.O. Box 991, Hemingford, NE 69348 and designated for the Hemingford Memorial Flag Park.
Graveside services were August 19. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating.
