Nina Elaine Wynia was born on September 19, 1929 at Wessington, SD to Emil and Nina (Cavanee) Moller. Nina’s family lived in Wessington, Mission and Brookings, eventually settling in Geddes, SD where she graduated from high school in 1948.
On July 31, 1951 she married Hugh Wynia from Platte, SD. They had six children: Gloria, Barbara, Dorothy, Steven, Ronald and Dwight. During their married life they lived in Platte, Oceanside, CA, Reliance, SD, and Hillman, MN. They eventually settled in Hot Springs where they have lived since 1975.
In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Nina taught Head Start at Lower Brule. After moving to Hot Springs, Nina volunteered countless hours at the VA Medical Center and on the Hospital Auxiliary Board. Nina was very active in Republican Women’s Organizations as well as serving on the Election Board for many years. She was a longtime member of Bethesda Lutheran Church.
Nina loved traveling and was able to take several memorable trips including to Europe and Hawaii. In later years, health issues that primarily resulted from a bout with polio in her late teens prevented her from traveling too far from home. Despite these problems she stayed active locally and enjoyed watching local sporting events and was an avid Hot Springs Bison and Denver Broncos fan.
She was blessed to have nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons who provided her with much happiness in her later years.
Nina passed away peacefully on August 10, 2014 at Fall River Hospital.
Nina is survived by Hugh, her husband of 63 years; daughters Barbara (David) Gulk of Rapid City, SD and Dorothy (Duane) Fowler of San Marcos, TX; sons Steven Wynia of Hot Springs, Ron Wynia (Kim Bell) of Rapid City and Dwight (Brenda) Wynia of Hot Springs; son-in-law Jerry Cahill  of Tukwila, WA; grandchildren Jeremy Cahill, Angela Cahill, Michael Gulk, Erin Wynia, Laura Donovan, Curtis Wynia, Kris Wynia, Brian Wynia and Bryce Wynia; and great-grandsons Carson Gulk and Austin Donovan. She is also survived by her brothers Gary (Gladys) Moller, Hank (Sherry) Moller, Bill (Janet) Moller and Keith (Julie) Moller as well as sisters-in-law Ruth Moller, Norma Moller and Lil Moller and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Gloria in 2013, her parents, her stepmother Yvonne (Yonne), and her brothers Frank, Clint and Gilbert.
Services were held at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation prior to the service, Rev. Gary Jacobsen officiated. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
A memorial has been established in Nina’s name to benefit the Bethesda Lutheran Church School.
