September 27, 1917 - January 10, 2022
Esther Evelyn Girton, 104, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away January 10, 2022, at her residence in Hot Springs.
Esther was born September 27, 1917, in Platte, S.D., to Bryan and Ruby (Burnham) Brill.
Esther loved many things, but she most loved children and her community. In her early career she was a babysitter for over 15 years and then she blessed the Hot Springs Public Schools as their lunchroom head cook for 21 years. Not only did she serve the best lunches but she also served smiles and encouragement to many a child. Esther was a committed member of the Church of Christ and taught Sunday School lessons to children. She was a member of many clubs in the community and was a faithful volunteer to community efforts including the Hot Springs Sr. Center.
Esther is fondly remembered as “Aunt Esther” to many. We ask that you not grieve for Esther, but rather celebrate her life as she would wish. Don’t wear black – instead wear her favorite color – red!
Esther is survived by her granddaughters, Wendy (George) PayPay of Hot Springs; Kristi (Jeff) Hudson of Hot Springs; grandson, Mark Girton of Mobridge, S.D.; sister, Fern Fite of Platte; 13 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren.
Esther is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lloyd and her son, Robert ‘Bob’ Girton.
Private family services will be held.
Memorials may be sent to the Battle Mountain Humane Society in Hot Springs.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home of Hot Springs, S.D.
