Earl Kenneth Dowty, 84, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away October 31, 2021, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Earl was born June 11, 1937, in Custer, S.D., to Benjamin Fitch Dowty and Olga Mae Clark. His brothers were Ben Dowty, Vic Dowty, Lowe Dowty, Les Dowty, Dean Dowty and Clarence Dowty Sr.
Earl grew up in Custer, until he was 12 years old when they moved to Hot Springs, where he attended grade school and high school. He later joined the U.S. Marine Corps and returned home in 1953, where he then reunited with his best friend, Ernestine Dowty. He learned a variety of trades throughout the years and enjoyed traveling and hanging out with his friends along the way. Earl enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and swimming. He was a dedicated Dad and Grandfather who you could always count on.
Earl is survived by sons, Earl David Dowty of Springfield, S.D.; Timothy Scanlon of New Jersey; Duane Bales of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Susie Dowty of Hot Springs; best friends, Jerry Briggs, Helen Southern, and Bill and Mary Cummings; granddaughters, Thelma Clifford and Destiny Clifford of Pine Ridge, S.D.; 5 grandkids, 14 great grandkids, 7 nephews and 1 niece.
Earl was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Graham/Dowty then later married Ernestine Dowty; his parents, Benjamin Dowty and Olga Clark; brothers, Les, Lowe, Clarence, Ben, Vic, and Dean and his pals on the Milkyway.
Visitation and funeral services were held Monday, November 8, 2021, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Committal services followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
