Aga Mae Niedermyer, 105, Hot Springs, S.D., passed away July 25, 2021, at Pine Hills Retirement Center in Hot Springs.
(Aga) Mae Dixon was born April 14, 1916, to William Hester Dixon and Lucy Eunice Blasingame at Mabank, Texas. Mae graduated from Mabank Texas High School in 1932. She attended Parkland Hospital Nursing School in Dallas, Texas graduating in 1936. Mae went to work for the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad as a nurse in Temple, Texas, making $90/month. She later moved to Ft. Collins, Colo. and then accepted a job with the V. A. Medical Center in Denver, Colo.
It was here that Mae met the love of her life, Harlan Niedermyer, and they were married at St. Johns Lutheran Church on November 24, 1951, in Denver. She and Harlan transferred to the Hot Springs SD VA Medical Center in 1967 and retired in 1976 having worked 33 years.
She was an active member in Bethesda Lutheran Church, NARFE, Red Hats, The Westerners, American Legion Auxiliary and past member of American Nurses Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan in February of 2020; parents; sister, Lena Jones and husband, Mason; brothers, Byron Dixon and wife, Pauline and William Dixon and wife, Bess, and nephew, Robert Jones.
She is survived by two nieces, Lucia (Larry) Street and Scottie (Bill) Flatley; nephew, Bill (Johnnie) Jones, several great nieces and nephews and a very dear friend/caretaker, Connie Benson; dear friends, Neva Boekhout, Dorothy and Karen Kaiser, Helen Schillinger and Lydia Emery, as well as a host of friends.
Services will be held at Pine Hills Retirement Community dining room on Friday, July 30 at 9:30 a.m.
A memorial may be made to Bethesda Lutheran School or somthing of your choice.
