Melvin Lulf

February 18, 1943 - January 14, 2021

Melvin Lulf was born February 18, 1943, in Hot Springs, S.D. on the family ranch, to parents, Anton and Lois (Muhm) Lulf, joining brother, David Lulf and sister, Alice.

Melvin attended Dry Creek School in rural Fall River County which was a three mile ride from home. When the Dry Creek School closed at the end of 4th grade, he attended Muhm school from 5th grade through the 8th grade.  He drove across country on what could best be described as a trail. This 7 or 8 miles trail was driven in a Motel T car and if weather was inclement, he rode horseback.

Melvin graduated from Hot Springs High School and then worked on the family ranch with his father, Anton. At the time of Anton’s death, Melvin continued working the ranch until he sold it in 2008. At this time Melvin moved to Oelrichs, S.D. In February of 2020 he moved to the Pine Hills Retirement Community Center in Hot Springs.

Melvin passed away January 14, 2021, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in Rapid City, S.D.

Preceding Melvin in death are his parents, Anton and Lois Lulf; infant brother, Floyd and brother, David.

Survivors are his sister, Alice Winter of Batesland and her children, Bev (Brett) Heath of Martin; Paul (Gail) Winter of Martin and Rich (Javier) of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Carol Lulf of Scottsbluff, Neb. and her children, Mike of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Linda of Scottsbluff, Neb. and Jeff (Jean-Paul) of Bellevue Neb.  Numerous great nephews and nieces are also left to mourn Melvin.
