Sylvia E. Heldman

Hot Springs – Sylvia, 78, died Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Sylvia was born on September 25, 1937 in Bismarck, ND to Calvin and Emma Kautz.
She attended school in Artas, SD, Igloo, SD and graduated in Edgemont, SD.
She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 42 years. Upon retirement she became very active at the Senior Citizens Center.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Heldman, Austell, GA and Tommy Heldman, Doraville, GA; one daughter, Kim Gregg, McDonough, GA; one sister, Geraldine Noe, Bethleham, PA; one brother, Calvin Kautz Jr., Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Victoria Heldman, Dakota Heldman, Michael Heldman, Jordan Gregg, and one step-grandchild, Timothy Gregg II.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Sylvia’s ashes will be buried near her parents in Edgemont.
Per Sylvia’s wishes, a public memorial service will not be held.
We loved her dearly and she will be truly missed by her family and many friends.

Marlene C. Monroy

Marlene Caroline Monroy, age 83, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on October 13, 2015, at the Seven Sisters Nursing Home in Hot Springs.
Marlene was born in Worcester, MA, on June 13, 1932, to Rockwell and Catherine (Poske) Falvey. She proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1960, until her honorable discharge in 1962.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Brad Quigley) Monroy of Portland; son, Tom (Wendy) Monroy of Plymouth, MA; 2 grandchildren, Marisa and Christopher.
Private family service have been held.

Vernon “Max” Hannan

Vernon “Max” Hannan, age 79, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on October 17, 2015, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.
Vernon was born on January 29, 1936, in Hot Springs, to Frank Irving and Bessie (McCoy) Hannan. He was named Vernon but was always known as Max. He was the youngest of eight children and grew up on a farm near Oral, SD. They moved to Hot Springs when their father secured a position at the South Dakota State Veterans Home. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1959, until his honorable discharge in 1961. Max married Jean Ann (Uhl) on October 10, 1970, in Hot Springs. They had two children Joel Mark and Rachel Lynn. His service allowed Max and Jean to return to the State Veterans Home to live after retiring. Many of his fondest memories growing up were from living there. Max did many things over the course of his life including beekeeping and maintenance for Hot Springs Housing.
Max is survived by his daughter, Rachel L. Hannan of Strasburg, PA; son, Joel M. Hannan of Overland Park, KS; and sister, Mary Anderson of Hot Springs.; sister in law, Alice Hannan of Stockton, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents; three brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, in the Auditorium of the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home with Chaplain Deb Grismer officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery near Oral, SD.

Charlene K. Kennedy

Charlene Kay Kennedy, age 74, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away, October 25, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Charlene was born May 21, 1941, in Sioux City, IA, to Raymond and Mildred (Jackson) Marks.
Charlene is survived by two sons, Jeffery Kennedy of Torrington, WY; Raymond Kennedy of Mesa, AZ; daughter, Dawn (Brian) Bufford of Colorado; sister, Dona (Carl) Atchley of Hot Springs; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.
