Marilyn Rose (Hanson) Swain, 83, of Hot Springs, S.D., passed away July 19, 2020, at Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs.
Marilyn was born February 24, 1937, in Kramer, N.D., to Harold and Lenora (Eifert) Hanson. She studied at the University of Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from Abbott Northwestern School of Nursing in 1958. She married Harry L. Swain on October 14, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Harry and Marilyn enjoyed 58 ½ years of marriage and were blessed with three daughters.
As a registered nurse, Marilyn served the counties of Fall River and Oglala Lakota as a Community Health Nurse. She also served as parish nurse for Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Rapid City, S.D. Marilyn was a long-time member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at Bethesda Lutheran Church.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Harry of Hot Springs; daughters, Rebecca (Lanny) Swain Grant of Silt, Colo.; Sarah (William) Heffler of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren, Sadie Heffler; Cami Cox; Cameron Cox; and numerous cousins.
Predeceasing Marilyn were her parents; daughter, Erica Cox; and grandson, Benjamin.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Gary Jacobsen officiating. Please practice social distancing.
A memorial has been designated in Marilyn’s name to benefit the Bethesda Lutheran School in Hot Springs.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
