Destry Franzen

Destry Johnathon Franzen, 59, longtime resident of Rapid City and formerly of Edgemont, died Saturday, September 6, 2015 at his place of residence.
Destry was born October 16, 1955 in Deadwood to Doris and George Franzen.
He was the oldest of six siblings, four of which are still surviving: brother, Jay (Terrie) Franzen and three sisters, Medora (Tony) Wieser, Lacia (Mark) Fox and Echo (Joe) Brosmire.
Destry is also survived by his three children were Richard, Zachariah (Bridget), Jayme Nicole (Tim), three grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends Janis and Steve Taffe.
He is preceded in death by his father George, mother Doris, and younger brother Gary.
Destry was very sports oriented. In high school he broke several records in football and track.
He love watching football and Nascar with his brother, Jaybird. He also was big into rock hunting, singing, yodeling and joke and story telling. And most of all loved his Rock and Roll. Destry had a special bond with his niece, Leah Franzen.
A memorial service and celebration of life was held at Echo and Joe Brosmire’s home at 1210 3rd Avenue in Edgemont on Saturday, September 12.
We love you big brother and you will be missed by many.

Zach Ferguson

Zachary Curtis “Zach” Ferguson, age 30, of Rapid City, SD, passed away September 4, 2015, in Hot Springs, SD.
Zach was born May 15, 1985, in Custer, SD, to Timothy and Deadra “DeeDee” Ferguson. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2004, after which he attended some college at Southeast Tech in Sioux Falls. Zach worked for Arctic Energy, as a Lead, traveling to Wyoming, North Dakota and Colorado.
Zach will be remembered by his outgoing, trustworthy, selfless, funny, spontaneous, empathy and loyal personality. His nicknames were “Spongebob” and “Fergie.” Zach loved spending time with his boys, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, watching hockey, his Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals play.
Survivors include his children, Aiden Ferguson of Watertown, SD; Daniel Nelson; Zalten Ferguson and Kaynen Ferguson; all of Rapid City; Zach’s mother, DeeDee (Scot) Geyer of Edgemont, SD; father, Timothy Ferguson of Independence, MO; grandparents, Beverly McBride of Edgemont; Bruce & Julie Ann Bown of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Lindsay (and special niece, Madelyn) of Independence, MO; Rylee Ferguson of Morgantown, WV; step-sister, Alexias Geyer of Pierre, SD.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 7, 2015, at the United Church in Edgemont.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at the United Church in Edgemont with Rev. Thomas Peacock officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.
A memorial in Zach’s name has been established to benefit his children.

Doris Polzine

Doris Jean Polzine, age 93, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on September 12, 2015, at the Seven Sisters Nursing Home in Hot Springs.
Doris was born in Hot Springs, SD, on April 26, 1922, to Ray and Frances (Roe) Pierce.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Carol Webb of Edgemont, SD; son, Raymond Polzine of Hastings, MN; brother, Leonard (Sheryl) Pierce of Minneapolis, MN; and one grandchild.
Services will be held at a later date.
