Lena Rose Hussey
Lena Rose Hussey, age 87, passed away July 21, 2014, at her home near Oral, SD.
Lena Rose was born April 2, 1927, in Denver, CO, to Amos and Nancy Janie (Bascoe) Kealiher. She graduated from high school early and went to work for the May Company. Soon after she met the love of her life, Willard Hussey, they got married on April 21, 1946.
Their first born son, Eddy, was born in Denver, CO.
They moved to Burlington, CO in 1949 to farm. While in Burlington they welcomed three more children- Raymond, David, and Nancy. In 1955, the family moved to Oral, SD on the Angostura Irrigation Project, where she has homesteaded ever since. Shortly after moving to Oral she gave birth to her youngest son, Tim. Lena Rose went to work for the V.A. in 1960 and retired in 1975.
Lena Rose especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found a love of quilting and embroidering. Everyone in the family has at least one of her highly sought after quilts. She loved to travel. Lena Rose visited Chicago, California, New York City, Bahamas, and many others.
While in the Bahamas she went parasailing at the age of 80. She was fearless and stood by her convictions.
Lena Rose is survived by her four sons, Edwin (Sidney) Hussey of Oral; David (Diane) Hussey of Oral; Raymond (Candy) Hussey of Buffalo Gap, SD; Tim Hussey of Gillette, WY; one daughter, Nancy Hussey of Oral; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
