Donald Martinson

Donald W. Martinson, 93, of Casper, Wyoming, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015. A memorial service is being planned for later this summer.
Don was born Dec. 31, 1921, to Wilford and Anna Martinson in Edgemont. He graduated from Edgemont High School in 1940, and then served proudly in the U.S. Army through WWII. Returning to civilian life, he met and married Harriet Hiller September 3, 1947. The young couple left on their life adventure to Alaska, South Dakota, and finally settled in Casper in 1950, where they both lived out their lives as active participants in the community. After Harriet’s death, Don married Mary Haynie of Anderson, SC. Don’s many vocations included mechanic, landlord, tire and equipment shop owner, and devoted volunteer.
His proudest accomplishments included being a Lions Club member and a founding director of the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute. He joined the Casper Mountain Lions in 1971 and went on to hold every office in that organization, several district offices and finally served as District Governor for western Wyoming. His work on the Lee McCune Braille Trail on Casper Mountain and his service of 23 years as a director of the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank and Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute Foundation were highlights of his life.
He will be missed by many friends and family members.


Dorothy Dean

Dorothy Marlen Dean was morn May 13, 1939, to Kenneth (Dutch) Kester and Violet Irene Kester (Waggener) in Chadron, Neb. Dorothy was the third child in a family of 17 brothers and sister including Violet Holmes (deceased), Delores (Bob) Waddington of Lead, Donna (Milton) Stratton of Simpsonville, SC, Virginia Hardesty (deceased), Norma (John) Skinner of Brent, Ala., Kenny (Phyllis) Kester (deceased) of Bennett, NC, Dick Kester of Custer, Wayne (Margie) Kester of Rapid City, Tom (Cornell) Kester of Belle Fourche, Raymond (Gloria) Kester of Rapid City, Mary Parker of Rapid City, Joe (Sharon) Kester of Colstrip, Mont., Mariyln (Dani) Akkerman of Hemet, Calif., and Gary (Peggy) Kester of Edgemont.
Dorothy married Dick Henry Dean on October 29, 1955. They had four children, three girls: Rose Marie (Warren) Dean Smith (deceased), Dixie Lee (Robert) Dean Whiteaker, Carol Ann (Daniel) Dean Wood and Richard Henry Dean (deceased).
Dorothy had eight grandchildren, Richard Neil Wood (deceased), William Lee (Brittany) Wood of Las Vegas, Nev., Dustin (Jennifer) August Graf (their children Lane, Logan and Hailee) of Custer, Nicholas Donald (Melissa Herman (their children Nicholas, Tanner and Alyssah) of Custer, Chad Alan (Amanda) Herman (their children Holly, Cody, Dalton and Dylan) of Gillette, Wyo., Nathan Robert (Kathryn) Herman (their children Dorothy and Colton) of Miles City, Mont., Crystal Marlene (Jerry) Wood-McLaughlin of Reno, Nev., and Sylvia Rose (Joe) Wood-Proffitt of Reno, Nev.
Dorothy died March 30 at Rapid City Hospice House after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 75.
Graveside services were held at the Pringle Cemetery April 3.
Gene Phillips

Gene Loren Phillips, age 84, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on April 6, 2015, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Hot Springs.
Gene was born on October 12, 1930, in Custer, SD, to William and Lena Mae (Dumke) Phillips. He served in the United States Army from 1952, until his honorable discharge in 1954.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Phillips; and son, Scott (Kristi) Phillips of Hot Springs.
Services will be held at a later date.
