House Veterans Affairs Committee Hearing draws a full house for VA discussion

South Dakota U. S. Representative Kristi Noem hosted a House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing in Hot Springs at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 14, at the Mueller Center.
The hearing, attended by Chairman of the House VA Committee Jeff Miller and Vice-Chairman Gus Bilirakis, was scheduled to further investigate the VA’s proposed restructuring of the VA Black Hills Health Care System.

Mayor signs Helen M. Raby Proclamation

On Monday, Aug. 18, Edgemont City Mayor Carl Shaw made a proclamation stating, “To the People of Edgemont, Helen M. Raby, Citizen of Edgemont from 1919 to 2014, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at the age of 103. In her death, the City of Edgemont has been deprived of one of its greatest citizens. On several occasions, Helen was given the keys to the City of Edgemont, having the day declared Helen Raby Day. Marlous Stevens Teaching Ceramics for 32 years

Marlous Stevens was born in Britton, S.D., in 1944. The family moved to Edgemont in April of her 7th grade year because her father was beginning his job at the uranium mill in Edgemont. She graduated from Edgemont High School in 1962.
She married Ed Stevens in 1964 and they had three children; Randy, Ron and Bob.
Even though she had a family to raise, she found time to offer classes in ceramics.  The class first started out in the basement of her ranch home in Red Canyon...

City Council Discusses Neighborhood Watch Programs; Hears Budget Requests

The Edgemont City Council met last Tuesday, August 5, with all members present and about fourteen members of the public in attendance.
The city began Budget Request Hearings which accounted for most of the public in attendance.
