Three Hot Springs cleanups planned for this summer

Events to be held June 19-25; July 24-30; Aug. 21-27

HOT SPRINGS – Due to the success of an impromptu community-wide, collaborative cleanup last summer in Hot Springs, Keep Hot Springs Beautiful (KHSB) has scheduled three cleanups this year with each one preceding an event bringing many visitors through our town.  The first is scheduled for the week of June 19 through 25 before the Main Street Arts and Crafts Fair in Centennial Park.

“This is an opportunity for any and all interested citizens to head out to an area they have noticed needs attention for weed reduction or litter clean up,” stated Shelley Hagans-Brown, president of KHSB.  “It can be done at any time and on any day for that week, and any place.  Whatever works best for them to get out and keep Hot Springs beautiful is perfect. This is not a structured cleanup but a show-up-when-you-can-and-just-do-it cleanup.”

The next two week-long cleanups will be July 24 through 30 before the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as thousands of bikers stream through out small town.  Then the final summer cleanup with be from August 21 through 27 prior to the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival.

“In an effort to document the power of volunteerism, we ask that you record the number of hours you worked.  Go to our Facebook page or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to tell us what you did for the event, ” stated Hagens-Brown.  “And we thank you for your helping hands to put our best foot forward to the thousands that will come through town. It is our hope that they will patiently navigate the construction as they admire the beauty of our great town.”

KHSB is a non-profit, community organization that has been active in Hot Springs since 2006 with their focus on beautification and waste/litter reduction. To-date, their sustaining $30 annual memberships, aluminum sales from their recycling trailer and their annual Rummage Sale fundraiser have provided all funding to cover their total program expenses.
