HOT SPRINGS – The Miss South Dakota Dinner and Cake Auction was held at the Red Rock River Resort on Saturday evening, April 30 and brought in support for the Miss South Dakota Scholarship Pageant. This is the pageant’s 75th anniversary. With 60 people present for the dinner and auction, the bidding was lively as auctioneer Ron Bradeen of Custer encouraged people to raise their bids higher and higher.
Before the dinner, the audience was entertained with musical selections by Miss South Dakota 1998 Sara Frankenstein Hoyt, the current Miss South Dakota Kaitlin O’Neill, Miss South Dakota Outstanding Teen Kianna Healy and Miss State Fair Miranda O’Bryan. A buffet dinner was served by the Red Rock that included entrees of beef and chicken.
After dinner, Bradeen started the auction with all the Miss title holders carrying the 25 beautifully decorated cakes around the room for the potential bidders to have a closer look. Laughter and bantering went on as the bidding among the guests continued to raise the final outcome of the auction. A total of $4,845 was raised by the cake auction, and the silent auction garnered $750.
The Miss South Dakota pageant, that was held in Hot Springs for 72 years, will be held in Brookings this year from June 2 through 4.
