HOT SPRINGS – At their annual meeting held earlier this month in Sioux Falls, the South Dakota Veterinary Medical Association (SDVMA) presented a number of awards to honor those who are excelling and showing a strong commitment to advancing the veterinary profession. Due to Covid, they announced the 2020 and 2021 award recipients at this year’s meeting.
As part of the awards ceremony, Dr. Kayla Brown of the Fall River Veterinary Clinic in Hot Springs was presented the Emerging Leader Award for 2020. This award is made to an SDVMA member who graduated from veterinary school within the last 10 years and has displayed outstanding accomplishments in veterinary research, private practice, regulatory services, civic activities, academia, and/or organized veterinary medicine.
The SDVMA noted Dr. Brown’s expertise in the field of bison medicine making her a sought after speaker/consultant in that field. They also acknowledged her research efforts that contributed to advancing the veterinary knowledge of canine brucellosis in stray/rescue animals in SD. This research is helping to identify and eliminate a disease that is a risk to both people and animals alike. Dr. Kayla is also the only AVCA (American Veterinary Chiropractic Association) certified animal chiropractor in the state of South Dakota. This certification holds her to a higher standard than any other credential in the field of animal chiropractic.
Dr. Kayla owns and operates the Fall River Veterinary Clinic with her husband Dr. Dustin Brown. The couple recently expanded their operation and moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility just east of Hot Springs on Fall River Road. Their phone number is 745-3786.
