EDGEMONT – Edgemont High School Alumni Keith Andersen (Class of 1968) and Marie Miller Andersen (Class of 1969) have issued a challenge between the two EHS classes to help raise money to finish the new football field/all weather track complex at EHS.

The challenge was announced at the ‘68 Class Reunion last year and will end at the ‘69 Class Reunion to be held during the Fall River County Fair weekend next week.

Marie said each class planned on donating $250, but she added a dollar to be ahead of the game but when Keith found out, he added a few bucks to his donation, so now her class is again behind in the game.

“So, I’m asking both classes to get in the game and we’ll see who will have bragging rights in the end,” Marie added. “We’ll accept any amount small or large.”

“The community has really gone above and beyond to help with this project, but $175,000 remain to give the track the asphalt coating,” Marie said. “Other things that have been done and need to be done are trees have been planted, some landscaping done. The inside curb is poured for the track. The concession stand and announcer box needs a little more work.”

Checks for this project can be made out to Edgemont Alumni Assoc., Box 91, Edgemont, SD 57735. The alumni association has been designated an organization that will let your donation be tax exempt.

“Please mark 68 or 69 in the memo line. Jane Ann Henderson, President of the Alumni Association will keep a spread sheet for us. We thank her so much for her help,” Marie stated.

“We all just love our home town and school and this project has really raised awareness and spirits among the school and community. Remember when you practiced track on the streets of Edgemont and/or the fairgrounds stumbling over cow pies and cactus. Let’s get this project done!”

Marie said the project has already had several alumni donate and she and her husband Keith are anxious to see how much the Alumni Association has raised.

“Keith and I have lived most of our life in Edgemont except for college and a few years working in eastern South Dakota,” Marie added, while describing how much the project means to her. “We dated in high school and participated in various sports and activities while there. We raised four children who all graduated from Edgemont and now have grandchildren attending school here.”

Donations will be accepted even if you don’t designate 68 or 69, but have a little fun and see which class comes out on top.
