Fall River County Weed & Pest Board Meeting
March 6, 2018
The Fall River County Weed and Pest Board meeting was called to order by President Jerry Wyatt at 2:00 p.m. March 6, 2018 at the Fall River County South Annex meeting room. Attending members were Joe Falkenburg, Bob Novotny, John Sides and Nina Steinmetz. Also in attendance was Telca Paprocki, Buffalo Gap National Grasslands Representative and Susan Henderson. All motions unanimous unless otherwise stated. Motion to approve the agenda and minutes of the last meeting were made by Joe Falkenburg and seconded by John Sides.
Old Business: The South Annex Open House was held on February 13th and was very well attended.
The State Weed and Pest Conference was held in Rapid City, S.D. February 14-16. Wayne Hageman attended on Wednesday, Bob Novotny on Thursday and Ray Palmer on Friday. White Horehound was added to the Fall River County Locally Noxious list. The County received 4 of 5 grants requested, Baby’s Breath control assistance, Hat and Indian Creek Noxious weed control, Salt Cedar Challenge, and the Non-competitive. Most interesting topic presented was on Medusahead and Ventenata, invasive grasses that are present in Wyoming.
The Private Applicators Training presented by SDSU Extension held March 1, 2018 was well attended.
New Business: Nina Steinmetz did an update on prairie dog complaints and the progress made on each. Short discussion on the Henderson property and keeping to the April 1st control deadline.
The Black Hills Botany Ecology Workshop will be held March 9, 2018 at the Game, Fish and Parks Outdoor Center in Rapid City.
Weed and Pest staff will be attending the Black Hills Invasive Plant Partnership meeting March 23 at the Game, Fish and Parks Outdoor Center in Rapid City.
The next meeting will be April 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fall River County Weed and Pest Office/ South Annex. Meeting was adjourned.
