President Bob Preuss called the Special Board Meeting of the Hot Springs School Board to order at 5:31 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020 with the following members present: Zac Bell, Petra Wilson, Ryan Walz, Frances Stokes, Mark Walton, Robert Preuss. Member Shaw present but left after action item 5.A before the vote. Members Absent: None. Others present: Superintendent Fischer, Business Manager Bilbruck, Principal Lurz, Assistant Principal & A/D Hruby, Special Services Director Schniers, staff and community members and others logged in as guests.
All Actions Recorded In These Minutes Were By Unanimous Vote Unless Otherwise Stated.
21.050 Approval of Agenda - Motion by Shaw, second by Wilson to approve the agenda. Motion carried 7/0.
21.051 Public Participation – Hot Springs citizens, Christine Colburn and Nina Ringstmeyer submitted letters read by Business Manager Bilbruck regarding the Return to Learn plan and the decision to go to Tier 4 on October 7th and 8th. Hot Springs citizen, Paul Nabholz read a letter he wrote regarding keeping the school district open for next week.
21.052 Conflicts Disclosure – None.
21.053 New Business - Motion by Walton, second by Walz to review the present school “Return to Learn” plan and possible updates based on the most recent research, data and school experiences as well as determine the Tier status for school beginning October 12, 2020. Superintendent Fischer stated that over the past couple of days approximately 6 staff and 4 students tested positive. This prompted the decision to go to Tier 4 on Wednesday and Thursday to give Administration time to do the contact tracing and deep cleaning in the buildings. Superintendent Fischer asked for discussion from members of the board as well as discussion from the Administration team on the Tier status beginning October 12th. Superintendent. Fischer suggested Elementary stay at Tier 2, Middle School go to Tier 4 through Tuesday and then Tier 3 Wednesday and Thursday, and High School Tier 3. Information was received late today that would need to be investigated to make a final determination on a Tier. Members of the board decided to leave it up to Superintendent Fischer and the Administration to decide what Tier would be best. Motion carried on roll call vote 6/0.
21.054 Governing Board Remarks – President Preuss asked that if you have tested positive for Covid-19 to please let the district know. Member Bell thanked Administration on doing a good job on contact tracing so far.
21.055 Motion by Walz, second by Stokes to adjourn meeting at 7:08 p.m.
