Fall River County Weed & Pest Board Meeting
November 5, 2019
The Fall River County Weed and Pest Board meeting was called to order by President Jerry Wyatt at 2:00 p.m. November 5, 2019 at the Fall River County South Annex. Attending members were Bob Novotny, John Sides, Wayne Hageman and Nina Steinmetz. Also in attendance was Telsa Paprocki, Buffalo Gap National Grasslands Representative. All motions unanimous unless otherwise stated. Motion to approve the agenda, minutes of the last meeting, and budget report was made by John Sides and seconded by Bob Novotny.
Old Business: Reports were given on the following meetings attended by the Weed and Pest staff:
Black Hills Invasive Plant Partnership – new weeds added to the Class Listings, County Agreements with Black Hills Forest Service for weed control.
District 4 – possible changes to the State Weed and Pest Board offices.
Black Hills Conservation Leaders – New State Forester soon.
Black Hills Resilient Forest – asked for signature page, ideas on how to find more dollars and workers for forest thinning in Fall River County.
Most all county reimbursement grants are closed and we are waiting for funds to be sent to county for dispersal. Leafy Spurge grant is still open and will be asking the SD Weed and Pest commission for an extension due to weather and cover.
New Business: John Sides made a motion for renewal of locally noxious weeds, Common Mullein and Houndstougue. Seconded by Wayne Hageman. Motion passed.
Discussion held on possible grants ideas for 2020.
The 2020 Weed and Pest Conference will be in Aberdeen, SD February 18 -21, 2020. Bob Novotny will be traveling with supervisor to conference.
Bob Novotny made a motion for the Fall River Weed and Pest Board sign the Document of Support to the Black Hills Resilient Forest Strategy. Seconded by Wayne Hageman.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fall River South Annex .
