Fall River County Weed & Pest Board Meeting
September 3, 2019
The Fall River County Weed and Pest Board meeting was called to order by Vice-President John Sides at 2:00 p.m. September 3, 2019 at the Fall River County South Annex. Attending members were Bob Novotny, Joe Falkenburg and Nina Steinmetz. Jerry Wyatt entered meeting at 2:05. All motions unanimous unless otherwise stated. Motion to approve the agenda and minutes of the last meeting were made by Joe Falkenburg and seconded by Bob Novotny.
Old Business: The county was done trapping and fogging last Friday, August 23, 2019. There were no positive pools for West Nile in any of the Fall River or Custer County traps.
The Fall River County Commissioners approved the purchase of a vehicle off the Federal Supplies list for the Weed and Pest Department at their September 3, 2019 meeting. Two possible vehicles were presented and Nina Steinmetz will be making the final choice.
New Business: Reminder that any empty herbicide containers that landowners would like to have recycled need to be to the Weed and Pest shop for transportation to Rapid City on September 5th. If there is not a major drop off, the staff may decide to just hold over jugs till next year.
Currently Fall River County has a number of grant opportunities for landowners in Fall River County:
Prairie Dog Poison Reimbursement 50/50 - $6,000 – Receipts dated: November 1, 2018 - November 1, 2019 - Maximum reimbursement amount may be put in place.
SD Forestry - $6,000 – 50% reimbursement for receipts purchasing herbicide to be used on private lands that are adjacent to Buffalo Gap National Grasslands or the Black Hills National Forest. Receipts dated: April 1, 2018 – September 30, 2018.
Horsehead Creek Noxious Weed Control Assistance – contact the Weed & Pest Office for more information if own property along these waterways. Receipts dated: April 1, 2019 – November 1, 2019.
Leafy Spurge Control Assistance - Funds will be used for application and purchase of herbicide for treatment of Leafy Spurge. Receipts dated: April 1, 2019 – November 1, 2019.
Discussion held on possible grants ideas for 2019.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fall River South Annex.
Meeting was adjourned. (Due to the lack of business and a quorum, October meeting was canceled.) Next meeting Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
